Catalogue description Karl Hausmann, his mother Caroline (nee Rosenthal) was Mrs. Linton's cousin. Her husband was Ludwig Hausmann. The family went to France shortly before the outbreak of World War Two. When the Nazis invaded France Karl Hausmann went into hiding, living with peasants in the mountains. His parents were elsewhere. One day he wanted to go to his mother's birthday party but the peasants wouldn't let him go.
