Description:

Folios 379-380. Workhouse Inspection Report Form from John Walsham, Poor Law Inspector, to the Poor Law Board, reporting his inspection of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union Workhouse on 6 August 1856. This includes details of medical provisions, management of the school, the vagrant wards, and some numbers of inmates.
Walsham reports that the sick wards were very good although the men's ward was too small and there was no separate hospital for infectious diseases. The school had not been reported on since 17 August 1855 by Mr H G Bowyer. The books were up to date except those of the medical officer which had not been properly kept during the last quarter. Sanitary conditions in the workhouse were very good although there were several cases of scarlatina in several parishes in the Union.
