History: | Born in Stafford, Staffordshire on 30 December 1890. He went to sea in 1906. He was a Chief Officer on the RMS Lancastria when in sunk in the Second World War and was awarded an O.B.E. He worked for the Cunard Line and retired in 1953. He published his autobiography, "The Captain of the Queens" in 1956. In 1958, he was credited as being an advisor on the film "A night to remember" about the sinking of the Titanic. He died on 29 October 1979 at the Nuffield Nursing Home in Wexham, Buckinghamshire. |
