History: The First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY) was created in 1907 as a womens yeomanry unit whose members were used for non-front line duties in both world wars, and it existed as a first aid link between front-line fighting units and the field hospitals. Female Special Operations Executive (SOE) agents dropped behind enemy lines in the Second World War were usually given FANY commissions. In 1999 the name was changed to First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (The Princess Royal's Volunteer Corps).
