History: | The Department for Constitutional Affairs was created on 12 June 2003 and headed by the Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs who replaced the Lord Chancellor. Its remit was the administration of the new Supreme Court system which replaced the existing Law Lords Committee system. The department also administrated the management of courts and tribunals through its main operational arm, Her Majesties Court Service and dealt with judicial appointments, the provision of legal aid and legal services and the promotion of reform and revision of English civil law. The DCA ended on 9 May 2007 when the Ministry of Justice was created. |
