History: | 1775: raised, 12 June 1775, from men discharged from the old 78th Foot, for service in North America. Two battalions raised by Sir Henry Clinton; 2nd Battalion called 'Young Royal Highlanders'. In 1775 the Royal Highland Emigrant Corps served in North America. 1778: numbered as 84th Foot and placed on Establishment of British Regiments from 1779. |
