Date: 1955-
History: The Dounreay site was opened in 1955 and three reactors were built over the next 20 years: the Dounreay Fast Reactor (DFR), Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR) and the Dounreay Materials Test Reactor (DMTR). The reactors were closed down in 1994 and are being decommissioned.
