History: Previously known as the Explosives Research and Development Establishment. Based at Waltham Abbey, Essex, and Westcott, Bucks. Responsibilities including the design, development and testing of rocket motor and allied devices, propellant research, and research on explosives and initiating compositions for warheads. In 1984, the establishment was amalgamated into the Royal Armament Research and Development Establishment.
