History: | The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) was created in May 2001 out of the former Department for Education and Employment, to focus on education, higher education, work-based training and lifelong learning. Responsible for determination of policy and monitoring of implementation relating to education and vocational skills. DfES ended in June 2007 when its responsibilities were passed between two new departments: the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS). |
