Date: 1983-1994
History: Originally established in 1958 under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research as a non-specific research institution at Stevenage. The Laboratory was transferred to the Ministry of Technology in 1965, the Department of Trade and Industry in 1970, the Department of Industry in 1974, and the second Department of Trade and Industry in 1983. On 1 April 1994, it merged with AEA Technology to form the National Environmental Technology Centre (NETCEN).
