History: | In July 1947 the title of the Dominions Office was changed to Commonwealth Relations Office (CRO). Also in 1947 when India and Pakistan achieved independence, the India Office was abolished and responsibility for the UK's relations with the two new countries was transferred to the CRO. On 1 August 1966 the Commonwealth Relations Office and the Colonial Office merged to form a single Commonwealth Office. |
