History: | Formed in May 1941 (by merger of the Ministry of Shipping and the first Ministry of Transport) in order to bring shipping, inland transport and the ports under the control of a single department. In October 1945 the ministry assumed control of the Coastguard, and in April 1946 its title reverted to Ministry of Transport. |
