Until 1997, it was responsible for most railway services in Great Britain when these were privatised. After 1997 the Board continued in existence to discharge residual non-operational functions. Under the Transport Act 2000, the British Railways Board was abolished and its functions transferred to the Strategic Rail Authority and its subsidiary BRB (Residuary) Ltd.|
