History: | Established by Act of 1871, by which the Poor Law Board, Home Office Local Government Act Office, and Privy Council Office's Medical Department, merged to form a single board with primary responsibility for supervision of local government services. In 1919 the Ministry of Health was established under the Ministry of Health Act 1919 to consolidate medical and public health functions and supervision of local health services, and assumed from 1 July that year the powers and duties of the Local Government Board. |
