| History: | The (first*) Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) was formed on 20 October 1970 upon merger of the Board of Trade and Ministry of Technology, inheriting their trade and industry functions, with some functions also transferred from the Department of Employment and Productivity. (In January 1974 a separate Department of Energy was created). The DTI existed until March 1974 when its was broken up and three new departments emerged: the Department of Prices and Consumer Protection; the Department of Trade; and the Department of Industry. [* A second DTI was created in 1983.] |
