Date: 1964-1970
History: Established in October 1964, to initiate a major national effort to bring advanced technology and new processes into British industry, inheriting technology functions from various ministeries. In February 1967 the Ministry of Aviation was abolished by the transfer of its remaining functions to the Ministry of Technology. In October 1969 the Ministry took over responsibilities for regional economic development from the Department of Economic Affairs and also in 1969 the Ministry took over all the functions of the former Ministry of Power. In October 1970 the Ministry of Technology was merged with the Board of Trade to form the new Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
