History: | Joint body established under the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979, and set up in 1984 to replace the Council for the Education and Training of Health Visitors. Responsibilities for the registration and maintenance of standards in the nursing professions in England, including the training of health visitors, nurses and midwives. The English National Board was abolished in April 2002 and its quality assurance function was taken on board by the new Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). |
