Date: 1782-1968
History: Created on 27 March 1782 when the Secretary of State for the Northern Department became Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and his secretariat emerged as the Foreign Office, responsible for the government's foreign affairs functions. On 17 October 1968, the FO merged with the Commonwealth Office and the Diplomatic Service Administration Office to form the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
