History: Architect. Appointed architect for the India Office 1858 and subsequently commissioned to complete the block of buildings by the erection of the Home and Colonial Offices. Also responsible for the Albert Memorial in 1864, and in 1865 designed St Pancras Station and Hotel, London, and buildings of Glasgow University. President of the Royal Institute of British Architects, 1873-1876, and Professor of Architecture at the Royal Academy from 1868. Knighted 1872.
