Title: Queen of Great Britain and Ireland
History: Second daughter of James II by his first wife, Anne Hyde. Succeeded to the throne in March 1702; crowned 23 April 1702. Had married in 1683, Prince George of Denmark (1653-1708). Most important constitutional event of reign was Act of Union with Scotland in 1707. Other important events of her reign included the War of the Spanish Succession (1702-1714); Marlborough's victories at Blenheim (1704), Ramillies (1706), Oudenarde (1708), and Malplaquet (1709). In 1704, the Queen Anne's Bounty (fund to help poor clergymen) was established. The last Stuart monarch, she died 12 Aug 1714 and under the Act of Settlement of 1701 (which ensured Protestant succession) was succeeded by George I.
