History: Diplomat. Served in Holland, 1690-1697. Envoy to Berlin, 1701. Ambassador at Berlin, 1703-1711, and The Hague, 1711-1714. First Lord of the Admiralty, 1712-1714. One of negotiators of Peace of Utrecht, 1711-1713. Succeeded to barony of Raby in 1695; earl of Strafford in 1711.
