History: | Assistant Keeper in the Department of Geology of the British Museum (Natural History). Joined Department of Geology, British Museum, 1892. Visited Christmas Island and Cocos-Keeling Islands in the Indian Ocean on a collecting expedition, 1897-1898, having been given special leave by the Museum Trustees. He remained on the island for ten months, studying the geology and collecting rocks and minerals, plants and animals. In Aug 1898, he returned to duty and his collections were worked on by a number of scientists at the museum. The results of their work was published in 1900, along with a geological report by Andrews himself. He made later expeditions to Egypt, 1900-1906, and again to Christmas Island in 1908. |
