Title: Queen of England and Ireland
History: Daughter (only child) of Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn. Succeeded to the throne Nov 1558 on the death of her Roman Catholic half-sister Mary I; crowned 15 Jan 1559. Under the Religious Settlement of 1559, she imposed the Protestant religion by law. Notable events of reign included the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1587, and England's naval conflict with Spain, including victory over the Spanish Armada in 1588. The last Tudor monarch, she did unmarried 24 Mar 1603, and declared James VI of Scotland as her successor (as James I of England).
