Title: King of Great Britain and Ireland
History: Second son of King George V. Prince Albert Frederick Arthur George; created Duke of York in 1920. In April 1923 he married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Came to the throne unexpectedly in December 1936 as a result of the abdication of his elder brother, Edward VIII. Crowned 12 May 1937. Last Emperor of India. Died 6 February 1952 and succeeded by eldest daughter, Elizabeth II.
