History: | Son of Edmund Tudor, Earl of Richmond. Lived in Brittany until 1485, when he landed in Britain to lead the rebellion against Richard III which ended in Richard's defeat and death at the Battle of Bosworth and Henry's proclamation as King of England (first of the Tudor kings). Crowned Oct 1485. Marriage to Elizabeth of York in 1486 united houses of York and Lancaster. Succeeded by his second son, Henry VIII in 1509 (his eldest son and heir, Arthur, Prince of Wales, having died in 1502). |
