History: | Cyril Grant was born in Guyana. During the Second World War he served as a flight lieutenant in the Royal Air Force and spent two years as a prisoner of war. He was a qualified Barrister at Law, but worked as an actor and singer, and was the first black face to be regularly seen on British Television. He was the co-founder and chairman of Drum, the London based Black arts centre in the 1970s and director of Concord Multicultural Festivals in the 1980s. |
