History: Gloucester in Bloom was formed in October 1999 and arose from "Vision 21", a group which had been set up in 1998 to improve the lives of Gloucester residents. The decision to enter the Britain in Bloom competition, run by the Royal Horticultural Society since 2003, highlighted local horticultural achievements, promoting education and environmental issues through community involvement. The committee has provided grants to community groups and encouraged local businesses and groups to sponsor roundabouts and displays. Since 2011 the activities of Gloucester in Bloom have been drastically reduced.
