History: | In 1831 Thomas Smith was apprenticed as a printer and later founded his own company based at Clavering House on Clavering Place, Newcastle, also with premises at the Close on the Quayside. The name of the company later changed from Smith and Sons (Newcastle) Ltd to Smith Print. The company was later bought by W H Forsters of Sunderland. |
