Date: 1979-1998
History: Its roots can be traced back to 1979, when a Berkhamsted lady, Pam MacPhearson, held a hospice vigil at St Peter's Anglican Church in Berkhamsted. After letters prompted local churches, chapels and the business community into fund-raising activities, it was Sister Lawlar, a nun resident at St Francis House, approached her Franciscan Order to ask if they could offer the property for sale to the project. This was accepted, and not long afterwards the hsopice began its activities. In 1985 it opened as a day care unit, and on 1 September 1986 it admitted its first patient. Over the year and following the purchase of adjacent property, the hospice expanded its range of services.
