History: | The Rural Sanitary Authority administered by the Guardians of Gloucester Union, set up in 1872, was superseded in 1895 by the Rural District Council. In 1935 the District Council took over responsibility for the areas formerly controlled by Newnham and Westbury Urban District Councils, Wheatenhurst Rural District Council and parts of some neighbouring authorities. |
