Date: 1935-1962
History: Formed as the Jewish Sports Club in 1934, meeting in the basement schoolroom of the Leazes Synagogue. Activities included plays, concerts and other cultural pursuits as well as sport. In 1936 new premises were opened in Westgate Road and at about the same time the club affiliated to the Maccabi Association dedicated to "responsible citizenship and loyalty to Jewish tradition tempered with high ideals of sportmanship". During the war the club premises were used first for civil defence purposes, then as a forces canteen, and in the early 1950's the lease terminated. In 1951 a new club was opened in Windsor Crescent, Jesmond, but this was demolished for road building in 1970. In 1974 the Association reopened at the site of the new synagogue in Gosforth.
