Title: Court of King's Bench, Crown Side, and Supreme Court of Judicature, High Court of Justice, King's Bench Division: Crown Rolls
Description:

Rolls recording the proceedings in crown cases which came before the King's Bench and the King's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice.

Each case is entered on a different rotulus, each with its own number. Most of them in fact consist not of one but of a number of parchment skins filed consecutively, which are subnumbered. From 1870 onwards there is no roll for some terms, and from 1883 there are only occasional rolls, usually carrying only one case.

From 1844 to 1859 the online catalogue description gives the names of parties and places and subject matter, information which has been extracted from a superseded card index.

Digital images of some of the records in this series are available through the Anglo-American Legal Tradition website. Please note that The National Archives is not responsible for this website or its content.
