Tests on scale models of float sea-planes and flying boats were carried out for both the Air Ministry and aircraft constructors at the William Froude National Tank, Teddington. The tank which was originally known as the Alfred Yarrow Tank was operated by the Royal Society from July 1911 until 1918, when it became part of the National Physical Laboratory.
