Catalogue description War Office: War Diaries (Supplementary), First World War

These diaries and extracts contain the daily records of events, reports on operations, intelligence summaries, etc of headquarters, army, corps, divisional, regimental and other commanders, including those of colonial contingents, in all theatres of war during the war of 1914-1918.

This series used to be closed for 75 years, although access was granted to readers who signed an undertaking not to disclose names or sensitive material from the records. However the whole series is now open and an undertaking is no longer required.

This series of diaries or extracts has been transferred from the main series of war diaries (WO 95).

Two keys to this series are in the reading rooms at The National Archives, Kew. The first is a key to the original WO 95 references of pieces in this series. The second is a key to the arrangement of the records. Please speak to staff at the enquiries desk.
