Catalogue description New licences

Papers relating to appplications for confirmation, by the County Licensing Committee (to 1951) or the County Confirming and Compansation Committee, of grants of new licences made by Petty Sessions. These relate to new licences, extensions of existing licences or transfers of licences from one house to another.

Most of the files have been weeded, retaining only the following types of document (not all of which were present in every file): minutes of evidence justifying or opposing the grant of a licence, petitions, photographs, statistics indicating level of use of premises, press-cuttings.

Two files have been preserved intact to illustrate the administrative procedures involved, the rest have been weeded.
