Administrative / biographical background:

These assessments were accumulated by Mr Harry Davies Thompson of Whitby, solicitor, who was also collector of the Land Tax for Whitby and the surrounding parishes. They were found in the offices he occupied in St Ann's Staith and donated to the Society by Mr Peter Lawson.
