John Horley of Ashurst, yeo., leased the property to his eldest son, John Horley of Dunsfold, co. Surrey, for 21 years (if the father should so long live), and at a yearly rent increasing from £4 to £6 by the fifth year (no. WISTON/622). John Horley received a grant of the trees growing on this estate, 7 Dec. 1705, in return for satisfying debts owed by his father to John Butcher 'and other persons' (no. WISTON/623); by his will, 31 Dec. 1714, the said John Horley, jnr., devised his reversionary interest in the property to his wife, Joan, for the education of their children, John, George and Hannah, and after, to the use of the said Joan for life (no. WISTON/624).
