Title: | Overseers - Rate Books |
Description: |
Since Hatfield was a large parish, the Overseers were in the habit of dividing the parish into wards, called Quarters, for the collection of rates. These were the Town Quarter, Woodside and Newgate Street Quarters, and Cromer Hyde and Ludwick Hyde Quarters. The latter four appear always to be associated in pairs. Instances of this will be found in the rate books for 1841 and 1844, where there are three volumes for one rate, each covering one of the three main areas |
