Administrative / biographical background:

This collection was donated to the Museum by a member of the Smales family in May 1968, transferred to the Library Archives in June 1981.

 

The Four Brothers was built at Whitby in 1747-1749 and owned by John Galilee. She was sold by him to James Atty and Thomas Boulby in 1775.

 

The three Sisters was built in Whitby in 1761 for John Galilee, he sold her to George Galilee in 1775, and by 1786 her owners were George Galilee, George Willis and James Atty. She was lost in March 1788.
