Administrative / biographical background:

The various Wotton charities are quite extensively covered in the Reports of the Charity Commissioners relating to Gloucestershire, 1819-1837, pp. 139-166.

For the purposes of convenience the records of the charities have been arranged here in the order in which they are listed in the Report.

The General Hospital and Hugh Perry's Hospital appear always to have been under the same management. To these were added a number of other charities, and Nos. 1, 2, and 4-14 were administered by the General Charity Trustees as a whole. Of the other charities, Robert Webb's Charity (17) was merged with the General Charities in 1954, by order of the Charity Commissioners.
