Description: |
Folios 360-365. To: The Local Government Act Office. From: Arnold Taylor, [Inspector, The Local Government Act Office]. A draft report on surcharges made against the Idle [Yorkshire] Local Board by the Auditor of their accounts on payment made in connection with that Board's attempts to secure an independent water supply from within the Idle District, which the Idle Board had requested the Home Secretary remit. Taylor says that it is clear from correspondence between the Idle Board, the Home Secretary and the Local Government Act Office that the Board were made aware of the fact that, due to Acts sanctioning the Bradford Corporation and the Calverley District Waterworks Company to supply water to a district including Idle, the Home Secretary could not sanction the Idle Local Board to obtain any sort of independent water supply. Therefore, Taylor remarks, the Idle Local Board must have been aware that such payments were illegal. The report contains an appendix detailing correspondence between the various parties on the matter, giving the dates of the letters and brief descriptions of their contents. |
