Description:

Commissioner Sir John Kempthorne, Portsmouth. Receipt of letter, the difference they have with Mr. Benson concerns only abatement for bad timber, he has hired a great hoy to bring Fitch's timber from Beaulieu and when he has received the press warrant, he intends to get the boatswain of the yard, Stephen Woolgate, to apply it to the hoy's master. The Portland, Newcastle and fireship are under sail. He has received a letter from Mr. Secretary Pepys advising that the St. David has sprung the head of her main mast and he is providing a new one. The King is not arrived. He will ensure no timber for the new ships is used for repairs. Mr. Ellis will not sell his timber upon payment in course.
