Administrative / biographical background:

Boxley's main parish church is St. Mary and All Saints, which was built aroud 1100 and is still in use today. From 1864, there was also a mission church in Grove Green, which doubled as a school. In 1903 a small parcel of land was given to the parish of Boxley in Grove Green, and the church of St. Michael and All Angels, also known as Weavering Iron church, was erected there, superseding the previous building. It was eventually destroyed by fire in 1969, having closed in 1965. Similarly, there was a mission chapel at Sandling, which was built in 1927 and closed around 1961. This was subsequently demolished. Records for all three places survive in the Boxley parish collection but, unless stated otherwise, all records are for St. Mary and All Saints.
