Catalogue description Recognizance before John Charlett by Richard Butler Gentleman Petty Constable of Defford for his appearance at Sessions to answer for not conveying Catherine Hayles and her child to the Bridewell. The statement on the back of the recognizance is "Richard Butler Gentleman is bound over at the instance of Mr. Fidoe High Constable for that the said Richard Butler did not carry to the Bridewell House one Katharine Hayles and her bastard child according to the Justices warrant whereby the life of the child was likely to have been endangered if the mother had come from it before some order might have been made by the two next Justices concerning the said child."
