Administrative / biographical background: |
This family is supposed to have been among the faithful vassals of Robert Banastre expelled from Wales in 1167. Certainly Iorwerth and Madoc, sons of Bleiddyn, held lands in Hulton before 1200. About two hundred years later the estates, which had grown considerably, were divided between the Hultons of Hulton and the Hultons of Farnworth, but much of the property of the latter branch returned to the senior line by purchase about 1677. William Wilbraham Blethin Hulton was created a baronet in 1905. In 1664 Ann, daughter of William Jessop, clerk of the council during the Commonwealth, married William Hulton. |
