Miss Winifred Anne Cocks (known as Freda) was born in 1906 and died in 1986. She lived most of her life in Dorset over a bakers in Poole and worked at the time as the nurse in Poole Pottery in a kiosk on Bournemouth Beach. During the war she worked in the cordite factory at Holton Heath and at The Haven Hotel, Sandbanks (see D1317:8/6). In later life she moved out from Poole because of plans to widen the High Street, first to Parkstone and then to Bridport. For a photograph of Miss Cocks, see D1317/27/1. |
