Description:

Shows the river from just S. of Shoreham Bridge (between Lancing and New Shore-ham) to Mock Bridge (between Shermanbury and Henfield), with a tributary as far as Bines Bridge (between Ashurst and West Grinstead), and the line of a proposed new cut in Steyning (S. of Benham Bridge). Parishes: Lancing, Old and New Shoreham, Coombes, Botolphs, Bramber, Upper Beeding, Steyning, Henfield, Ashurst, West Grinstead and Shermanbury. Shows Shoreham and Beeding Bridges in conventional elevation, symbolical plans of churches at Shoreham, Coombes, Botolphs, Bramber and Steyning, farms, chalk pit, fords, locks, wharves, old ferry road, proposed small new cut S. of Bines Bridge. Names [Sussex] Pad inn; Burfields, Applesham, Erringham and Annington Farms, Kingsbarn Farm [King's Barn]; Newhall, Streatham, Heath, Little Jarvis, Lashmars, Etons [Eaton's] and Betley Farms, Wharf inn near Mock Bridge in Henfield. Some attempt to denote high ground. Unusual compass rose. Book of reference giving owners and occupiers.
