Catalogue description Lease whereby, in consideration of the surrender by Daniel Gilbert (of Coventry, weaver) of a lease made with his father Thomas by Richard [I] Hopkins, E. Hopkins (described as in 362/2) grants to D. Gilbert closes in Shortley long held by T. Gilbert (reserving trees) for 21 years from 25th. Mar.[, 1721] (replacing their fathers' agreement which had been for 22 years and on [25th. Mar., 1721] still had three years to run); £12 p.a. will be paid for the first triennium but £17 p.a. thereafter, and a couple of good fat capons will be provided for E. Hopkins' household every 20th. Dec.; penalty-clause of £4 p.a. per acre ploughed or mown without permission during the new term's final three years; power of re-entry as in 362/1/2. Memorandum that D. Gilbert allowed to plough the land for three years out of the first seven.
