From: John Finch, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory; the convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory To: John son of William Doreward of Bocking Richard [Gillingham], prior, and the convent farm let to Thomas Rechford, Joan his wife, and John son of William Doreward, Port Hazell ('Pourthasele') field in Bocking vill, 'Wellecroft' and an adjoining alder-holt ('auglne'/'aulne') for 30 years after 29 Sep 1371. For an annual payment of 8d per acre. Also a grant annually during the lifetime of John son of John of Stisted of 1 acre of South Wood ('Southboys') in Bocking Park wood of the best of the season of the year. Thomas and Joan have assigned their estate to John. Confirmation of this estate to John for his lifetime plus 1 year. With reversion to the priory. If John dies within the term of 30 years, for the remainder of the term plus 1 year the estate should remain to John's heirs and assigns for the same payment. Priory's part of indenture.
