Former reference: Deed Copy 6. 1.16c.. Copy (incomplete) of supposedly-spurious grant [1563] by Thomas Hawkyns alias Fisher (of Warwick, esq.) to Thomas and Arthur Gregory (in return for grant to him of Priory land in Chaddeshunt, [Bishop's] Tachbrook, Gaydon and Bishop's Itchington [all Warws.]) of Styvechale manor (including Asthill), in length from Seven Oaks to Earlsdon and in breadth from "Rowsen" to Hearsall, together with Asthill park; the grant incudes homage of lands formerly Humphrey Ferrers, Baldwin Freville's and Geoffrey Langley's in Styvechale, half of a knight's fee (11/- p.a. rent) on two messuages and a virgate of Thomas Hill's (formerly Thomas de Shetton's, Ralph Wauter's, Thomas Marston's, Richard Marston's, John Hewet's, George Keble's or William Norres'), besides T. Hill's military service upon a messuage at the western end of Styvechale (formerly belonging to George "Lef", Richard de la Cloude of Canley, Thomas Raves and Richard Crossebye), 12d. with 1/2lb. cumin on Hill's land (once held by Richard Norres, John Barewe, Reginald Ballard, Richard Barewe or Robert Barewe), 4/- with 1/2lb. cumin on Christ's College (Cambridge) lands (hitherto John Barewe's, Thomas Barewe's or Richard Barewe's, but before then John Eyer's, Joan Scott's and Richard Clarke's), one-sixteenth of a knight's fee with 4/- p.a. rent upon the property of Henry Berkeley (Lord of Berkeley; erstwhile property of Matilda Moubraye, William Moubray, Geoffrey "Lef" of John le Segrave), one-tenth of a knight's fee belonging to the Priory on Thomas Essex's enclosures ... . |
